During my school years, my art teacher introduced me to a book of photographs by Felice Beato, taken in the early 19th century when he visited Japan. His images instantly captivated me, particularly those that seemed to bring real samurai clad in authentic armour to life. Since then, I’ve dreamed of creating something that honours his work.

For years, I’ve photographed armour for books, catalogues, and the pieces I sell, but I finally decided to challenge myself and see if I could capture the essence of Beato’s style in my own work. Inspired by my admiration for the old masters, especially Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, I embarked on a project to transform armour photography into fine art.

The prints you see here are the first examples of that journey. I’ve carefully selected some of my favourite shots from the initial photo shoot to offer for sale. Since quality is central to everything I do, I partnered with one of the UK’s top fine art printers to ensure each print meets the highest standards.
